Easy takedowns are the best takedowns. The best part about this takedown for BJJ players is there is no risk. Even if you miss this basic takedown there is no way for your opponent to counter or for you to end up in a bad position. One of the hardest things to do is take people down in jiu-jitsu. This takedown is easy to drill and effective from white belt jiu-jitsu to black belt level competitions. Mixing a little bit of wrestling into you BJJ can really help not only the takedowns but also your ground game. Hitting arm drags from the floor can also be super effective.

Don’t start your match down by 2 points or with a sloppy pull.
NOGI Takedowns can be a problem for a lot of people. The good news is they don’t need to be really complicated to work really well. Having some simple to use takedowns can really help

Finding takedowns from Wrestling for BJJ in the gi can tough. A lot of times the grips get in the way and stifle shots and traditional Wrestling style takedowns.
Recently, after a BJJ seminar I did in West Virginia at Lewisburg Jiu-jitsu. Myself and Alex, one of the coaches there went over some details on finding Wrestling style shots and entries in order to hit a BJJ takedown (like single legs and double legs) while wearing the gi.
Btw, If you live in or near Lewisburg or are ever in the area. Check these guys out. They are amazing people and I would recommend them to anyone.

During the quick BJJ lesson I did with Alex. We touched on the basic idea of controlling grips in order to find the take down in Brazilian Jiujitsu.
He said that he had messed around with Judo style throws and takedowns and was now moving towards Wrestling style variations in order to fuel his BJJ takedowns.
In the video I share how I struggled with my single legs and double legs in the gi because of grips. Then later on as I began to grip fight more effective I was able to overcome those issues.
If you’re trying to use Wrestling style takedowns. I would advise you to fight grips like crazy! And hopefully the tips in this video will be useful for your BJJ training or future Brazilian Jiu-jitsu competitions.
Oh. . . and as a side note. . . you may see what happens when I get super caffeinated. Haha I was a chatter box during the moves.
Thanks!

The rear-choke is one on the worst situations you can be from a self-defense perspective and when training Jiu-Jitsu.
There are many techniques to escape the rear choke, but these are our favorite Jiu-Jitsu techniques to escape a choke, and finish with a throw, takedown, control or submission.
4 Jiu-Jitsu Techniques to Escape Choke:
1.) Ippon Seo Nage – a very common judo / jujitsu throw to drive your opponent into the ground. In this self-defense version of the ippon seo nage, we’ll use a Combat Jiu-Jitsu stance to drop your opponent.
2.) Osoto Gari – Another very common Judo or Ju-Jitsu leg-trip throw. In this version of the Osoto Gari Rear Choke Self-Defense, we’ll use your opponents “action” to step behind him and trip him with the Osoto Gari Takedown
3.) Judo Lock – The judo lock escape is one of the best self defense moves when your opponent has their arms around your neck and is choking you. It is a simple movement that easily gives you jiu-jitsu control over your opponent.
4.) Yoko Wakare – this Ju-Jitsu throw is also a side fall and sacrifice throw that uses gravity to throw your opponent over your shoulder. It is very effective, and quick self-defense takedown.
You will also learn a jiu-jitsu training drill to put all of these self-defense Jiu-Jitsu techniques together.

Fernando Terere teaches one of his favorite takedowns, the Safada Takedown. Terere used this takedown in many matches, even against people who were 50 pounds heavier than he was, including opponents such as Pe de Pano and Roger Gracie (2008 Absolute Mundials).
