In this video, you will learn one uncommon grip variation for turtle guard, and a few of the attack possibilities that flow from it. The first of which is the no-gi clock choke, but there are some many ways to take the back from it as well.
Also the clock choke isn’t the only submission you can set up with it either.
So check it out if you want to be able to attack turtle guard from more angles.

The butterfly guard is a very powerful position, but if you know what to do, then you can defend the sweep, smash the guard, and take the back. This technique from the Rolling Backtakes for Everyone instructional (https://www.grapplearts.com/rollingbacktakes) is one of my very favorite ways to do just that, and if I can do it as a 54-year-old man with a hip replacement, then you can do it too!

Stephan Kesting shows the easiest way to learn the swinging Kimura backtake. Download his free BJJ checklist at https://www.grapplearts.com/book
The Kimura isnβt just a submission; itβs also a great big bloody handle you can use to manipulate your opponentβs body in space and to swing yourself around him. The swinging Kimura backtake is a showboat move but it is actually quite high percentage especially if you use the Kimura to tilt his body sideways towards the ground (which also prevents him from stepping over you and doing an armbar counter). Give it a try!

I have fell in love with the Switch from the Guards the last few years and teach it often. I was at an open mat with 7 black belts and a bunch of savage purples that work AGF. We were in Jackson, Mississippi at my buddy Anthony Mitchellβs gym, Precision Martial Arts.

Just like they can wrap around your back leg, they can also wrap around your front leg. This also works in your favor, and can setup a really solid back mount with his arm trapped too.
