In this video I show a fundamental sweep from Full Guard for Brazilian Jiu-jitsu that I teach all of my White Belts. During the demo in the video I show how I use the Kimura sweep in BJJ and then also show one of the reason I love it as a fundamental move.
As I’ll talk about, the move itself is effective. But it’s so useful in off-balancing our opponent and setting up other techniques like triangle chokes, guillotines and so on.
So if you’re looking for a basic sweep to use from Full Guard then I hope this is helpful.
Also, here is a playlist with more details on using and finishing the Kimura from Full Guard: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXCdU94TRic&list=PL5awtUfQsILrte3-jOKd2GP3qeHV7qg1C
Thanks to KC for the question!

Today’s video is about a young guy who is getting ready for a competition and has recently been promoted. Like most people at a new belt he doesn’t feel ready at this new level of his BJJ and is worried about letting his Jiu-jitsu coach down.
He says his Brazilian Jiu-jitsu coach is not just a coach. He’s a friend, a mentor and someone he looks up to. This young guy has also become one of the better competitors inside the gym.
And with that, he’s worried that if he competes and loses that he’ll let his coach down or possibly change the dynamic between their relationship.
In this video I share some ideas on how most of the coaches I know judge people. I’ll also share some ideas on how to accept losing in grappling competitions (or anything really).
Hope the video is useful to you.

Today’s video is all about Cross Collar chokes in the gi and the small details that make them work in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.
This technique video is partly an attempted to help my newer White Belt and Blue Belt BJJ practitioners. But also an attempt to share some useful details on making collar chokes (like the X choke) work from Guard.
You see for a long time with my Jiu-jitsu training I just didn’t have much success with collar chokes. I just figured they “weren’t my thing” or however you want to word it. But after picking up some small adjustments on the wrist, holding times and gripping the collar. Now I’m much more successful with collar chokes during rolling.
Hopefully the video will be useful to you and your Brazilian Jiu-jitsu training.

Today’s rolling video is a primarily focused on me using a mixture of back takes and armbars.
In particular you’ll see the shotgun armbar used as well as some of the rolling back takes I’ve used in competition recently. If you watch you’ll also see me fail with the shotgun armbar and have to switch to other options.
Hope you enjoy the video and that it sparks some ideas for you and your training.

Will BJJ training get you ripped? That’s the basic question from our buddy Brandon. He said he’s been thinking about getting into BJJ primarily because he was to lose a few pounds.
He’s seen where a lot of people get in shape with the “gentle art” and was wondering if it would help him in his quest to get abs that he can wash his clothes on in a pinch.
I’ll confess the last part was my own addition. . .
To answer Brandon’s question and maybe yours if you were curious about the same thing. The answer is a big resounding no.
Simply put. Diet is the building block that your performance and health is based upon. And when it comes down to losing weight it boils down to calories in and calories out.
In the video I’ll talk more about how Brazilian Jiu-jitsu can help you lose weight but how it’s not the only thing that’s needed if you want to lose weight and get leaner.
