In today’s Q&A I answer a question from a newer BJJ Purple Belt who says he feels like a phony. He says that when he was a White Belt the Purple Belts in his gym were absolute monsters, and he doesn’t feel like he’s a monster. He feels like he’s no where near their skill.
In this video I share some ideas on this common imposter syndrome thing. I also share why in the case of the person asking today’s question, your view of a belt from the ideas of a newbie can skew the reality of the situation.
I know this from experience as a Brazilian Jiu-jitsu practitioner myself and as a coach who’s had numerous students say the same thing.
Whether you’re struggling with imposter syndrome because of a new belt or something else, then I hope the video is useful to you.
Hope you enjoy the video. Thanks for watching.

Get stuck in back mount during rolling? Happens to everyone in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu at some point. In today’s video I share 6 different ideas on escaping back mount. Some of them are a little funkier than others but I’ve been able to use all of them at some point against tough opponents during rolls.
The escapes include options against top arm side, bottom arm side, and body triangles.
At the end I share a simple back and forth drill you could use as a warm up or to get extra reps in.
Hope the video is useful to you with your back mount escapes in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.
Talk to you next time.

Donโt Use Your Strength! This is something all of us big strong people hear in BJJ from day 1. And in my bearded opinion itโs some of the WORST advice in BJJ, as I’ll explain in the video.
Now, I’m sure if you train Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and are a bit smaller, and have had the pleasure of rolling with a 200lbs+ spazzy person, you may be resistant to this idea. But stick with me in the video and Iโll explain why this advice in BJJ leads to poor performances and more injuries.
After watching the video you’re welcome to leave your comments below.

In today’s BJJ Technique video I show an Anaconda Choke and Schultz Headlock Choke from the front headlock. This is a fun combo to throw into the mix that works off the exact same grip as a setup.
Schultz headlock choke is a fun choke that some people may or may not be familiar with. Dave Schultz used it in wrestling to work towards pinning his opponents. We can use it to submit someone or advanced to a different submission or even the back.
If you’d like more info on the Anaconda Choke for Brazilian Jiu-jitsu just head over to here: https://youtu.be/xL1wJp84XO0
Shout out to my buddy Derek for showing me the headlock so I could study it and mess around with it.

Today’s question is about not improving in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu even when you’re training harder than ever. This is the basic situation going on for John who’s hit a plateau in his BJJ progress. Now he says he’s training even harder than he used to in order to break out of the plateau, but he’s still stuck.
So, in the video I’ll share why I ditch rolling harder or training harder when I’m trying to break out of a BJJ plateau. Now, keep in mind I’m still training hard. I love training hard. But sometimes going even harder isn’t the best route. Keep in mind that the process I talk about in this video is mine. It might work for you, it might not. I also give some examples of what this process looks like in training during situational rolling or full rolling.
I also share a book that I enjoyed in the video. If you’d like to check it out, look at the link below.

Anyways, I hope you enjoyed the video. Talk with you next time.

In today’s video I reply to a comment from one of my recent videos where a viewer said that “BJJ coaches hold back students to maximize profits.” I’m paraphrasing a bit there, but the idea is accurate.
So, I share my thoughts on this idea as to whether or not BJJ coaches, or martial arts gyms in general, hold their students back to maximize profits or if there is something else going on.
After watching the video you’re welcome to contribute to the comments with your own thoughts and ideas about the subject in BJJ and martial arts gyms.
Thanks for watching.
