One of my favorite positions in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu is X Guard and Single X Guard.
It ties right along with my Half Guard too which I consider my best position.
In this video I answer a question from out friend who is wanting to look at some entries into X Guard.
And before I get into the X Guard position itself. I want to stress the importance of Entries for our BJJ games.
Oftentimes people look for the cool sweeps, guard passes, submissions, etc but then they forget about the entries to get there.
Consider entries the starting point for any position or set of techniques in Brazilian Jiujitsu.
Now in this video I show a simple way to get to X Guard from a Half Butterfly Guard.
I use this a lot if I’m struggling to get the Half Guard working for me on bottom.
Give the entry a try and see how it works for you!

This is a drill that isolates the ‘dig’ aspect of the heel hook, i.e. getting your wrist and forearm into the correct position to correctly apply the heel hook. This Sweep is very simple and it comes from the seated guard. I really love using this motion to get in on my attacks. I will ether reach out and grab control of the hand/wrist or bait them to grab my hand. Ether one works and it will give me an effective way to get in on the legs and start attacking.
I mix my attacks between going under the legs and going to the de la riva. depending on the positioning of their legs. in my match my opponents legs were spread really far apart which mad it easy for me to get under and attack this sweep. If his legs were closer I may have went to another attack instead.
Thanks to Steven for the viewer video at the end! I showed this wrist lock setup to the takedown a few weeks ago and he hit it in a competition! If you have video of yourself hitting one of the techniques I’ve shown or just have something silly to share and you wanna be on the channel send an email to chad@chadthebeasthardy.com
Triangle chokes are great, but triangle choke setups is what allows you to actually get into that submission in the first place. Here’s my current favorite setup! Also, have you downloaded my BJJ checklist yet? You can get it for free at http://www.grapplearts.com/book. And you can get more two-on-one techniques from Rob Biernacki at https://www.bjjconcepts.net
In this video I show a way to bail out when you’re a little over zealous with your Belt Row. The Belt Row can be a really powerful technique and against someone who has not seen the entry, it can be extremely easy to over estimate your opponent’s base.
With that being said, it’s not that bad of a thing for you, when you really launch your opponent. Just make sure that you practice the transition a few times as you will not have a lot of time to make the transition.
Check out this SLICK knee bar setup from Professor Henry Akins!

In this video I show a kimura from closed guard.
The kimura from closed guard is one of the essential techniques everyone has to have, especially white belts. In the video I give some small details that help my students and have helped me make the move more successful during training and competitions.
