If you’re getting stuck flat on your back in side control, first learn how to survive and breathe. When the attack comes look for opportunities to fill the gap and free yourself so you can make the escape.

Here’s an example of a Leg Lock Escape done wrong, by Ronaldo Jr. against leg lock specialist Craig Jones.
Running away can be a good strategy to escape leg locks, as long as you clear your opponent’s grips first, otherwise you will just give your opponent the space he needs to entangle his legs and secure a superior position.
