Using Different Attributes in Your Jiu JItsu!
A quick Vlog from my Jiu Jitsu Training Trip in Dallas, TX. I’ve been training hard…and there is nothing like a plunge into a cold pool after a hard days training. I’ve been thinking about how we leverage different attributes in BJJ. People bring different characteristics to the mat…some its youth, some its flexibility some its strength and some its cardio. Thinking about your various skills and weaknesses and that of your opponents can shape the way you approach a roll. Remember to work and leverage your strengths and try and exploit your opponents weaknesses. Listen to this quick travel vlog as I discuss this in more detail…
The AWESOME Roger Machado Americana – BY ROGER MACHADO!
You might remember my video on the Awesome Roger Machado American – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xscg5rfunbc
It’s such a brilliant technique. You might have also seen me use it a few times in my rolling with my students. It is incredibly effective and deceptively powerful. Don’t underestimate it.
And I’ve been super lucky to have the Legend – Prof Roger Machado himself talk over the technique for you guys. I hope you love it. Try it out on the mat and let me know how it goes.
Countering the SINGLE LEG Takedown Into the KIMURA Trap!
The single leg takedown is a great takedown technqiue and maybe the most used in grappling. But there are a number of great counters and this particular one places you into a fantastic kill position. I use it often and my students have used it, with positive results, in competitions. Take a look and give it a try. Let me know how it goes.
HALF GUARD Technique FROM an AWESOME RCJ Blackbelt!
When I get caught in a half guard – no problem. I just change shape. And that usually solves much of the problem and enables me to get out and back in control. Not so with this awesome RCJ Blackbelt! Watch this little trick. Easy to do and very effective.

Is BJJ Enough for SELF DEFENCE or MMA?
Is BJJ Enough for SELF DEFENCE or MMA? This is a topic that is raised a lot in our sport. In this video, I provide some of my thoughts.
A STANDING Throw with an ARMBAR FINISH!
We did a video recently with the starting ‘from knees’ position. The technique works just as well from a throw. You can set it up so that you are thrown but end the match quickly with an armbar. It works. A student of mine did it recently at a competition. Check out the video. Try it on the mats. And let me know how you go…
How to do the INVERTED GUARD TRIANGLE – The Easy Way!
We have just completed a quick triangle series and I thought it would be good to cover in detail the inverted triangle. This has been used in competition by my students to great success. It is much easier than you think, just follow some of the simple steps that I discuss in this video and you will be doing them too…easy! Watch the video. Try it on the mat. And let me know how it goes…
How to SURVIVE the CROSS CHOKE!
The cross choke is an incredibly effective submission and is used often and effectively in our academy. But you can escape them. With just a few tricks and techniques. Watch this video and I will show you how. Try it out on the mat and let me know how it goes.
What You NEED to Know to WIN a STREET FIGHT – the Basics!
This video discusses in some detail how to bring your Jiu-Jitsu into a street fight in some basic moves. They are not difficult but they are certainly effective…particularly against an unskilled opponent.
Starting from knees: TAKEDOWN/ARMBAR combo!
In Jiu-Jitsu we often start from our Knees. But this technique works from the knees or from standing. Does not matter. Get the throw, if it doesn’t work…move straight into an Armbar. It’s incredibly effective and can end the roll/match within seconds. A couple of my students did exactly that in a recent competition. Check out the video and try it yourself on the mat. Let me know how you go.

A Tricky KIMURA From SIDE CONTROL!
This is not a common submission. But it’s not hard either. And it’s a little bit tricky. So can catch your training partner off guard. I am sure you will get submission success with this on the mat. Watch the video and give it a try on the mat…and let me know how it works out…
