This collaboration video in association with Budo Brothers is over a topic that I have been exploring for some time now, knife defense in ground grappling. This is the result of years of training with experienced grapplers, martial artists, law enforcement and other industry professionals interested in self defense and personal protection.
Weapons consideration is a very realistic threat in self defense. Defending against knife attacks, or knife usage in a fight, is a scary and dangerous possibility. In this video we explore a potential position one is likely to find themselves in in a physical confrontation if the fight hits the ground. We focus in this short segment specially on side control and transitioning from a severely inferior position to a potentially dominant one, using a sweep that is useful in a variety of fighting situations. Please be safe in any physical training you do, particularly when training in combative or competitive endeavors.

There are kinds of ways to control the body in the traditional top finish position for the armbar. This little adjustment to the position, though, to a whole ‘nother level of savage pressure.
Give it a try.

Utilizing the Double Overs Control there is an opportunity to attack 2 armbars in North South. NOT posting on his ribs with your knee is key! If you do it will cause slip space

This is one of my favourite armlock set ups from the Closed Guard.
For me, it’s much harder to escape or defend because I don’t open my legs as much and he can’t use his other arm to help protect his trapped arm.

http://teachmegrappling.com This video I breakdown a defense for triangle chokes that I call the “Big Belly” defense. Its important to not allow your opponent to lock the triangle completely and using this method can really help you to “Don’t get in it!”. Check out the details and you are sure to find something useful! Enjoy! If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, please comment below. More videos to come! I have been using the Cross Guard since purple belt and it has always been in my opinion one of the most dynamic guards. It opens up options for both submissions and sweeps. Allows for triangle chokes, armbars, omoplatas, ankle locks, matrix set ups, berimbolo set ups, and transitions to X Guard. I think it is easy to set up for beginners from closed guard as well as accessible in many situation even at a top level. This clip is my giving a short overview of the position from my classes teaching at the Nacka Summer Camp in Stockholm Sweden. If you like the position I have more instructional content on the grapplers guide.

Once you understand the Back Take and Armbar it becomes easy to combine them! This leaves your opponent guessing. Enjoy
Worm Guard has many Sweep and submission options but the Armbar is high on the list of attacks once you shoulder roll! Happens often!

Episode 2 of “not the bmac show” is here and the crew finds out about Tom Cruise and his warlock abilities while we look at flower sweeps. Brandon, although not very knowledgeable about fish, knows a thing or 2 about flower sweeps. He speculates some things about Tom Cruise that the rest of us aren’t sure about. Part of the package, I suppose.

Here are 3 tweaks that you can implement immediately to make your Kimura armlock MUCH more effective right away! I also share TONS of other BJJ tips in my email newsletter which you should check out at https://www.grapplearts.com/newsletter
In this video I show my favorite BJJ submission chain from Side Control I used as a White Belt in Jiu-jitsu rolling and competitions. Truth be told, I still use elements of it even now as a Black Belt. Just illustrating the fact that good sound fundamentals moves never become truly obsolete. So you don’t have to be a White Belt to use this submission series.
I originally learned this submission chain series from an old Brazilian Jiu-jitsu DVD series and would practice it with my roommate who was also involved with training.
It’s a pretty simple sequence. First it starts from Side Control with the Kimura and transitioning to North South. After that I use an Armbar if the Kimura isn’t successful or doesn’t feel right. Finally if all of those options fail I go for Back Mount.
If you know me, you know I love taking the back! And this is one of the first transitions I used that helped create this love for back taking.
So whether or not you’re a BJJ White Belt. I hope you enjoy the submission chain shown in this video and I hope it’s useful to you.
