This is a simple and basic hook sweep but I hit it all the time. If you follow through with the bottom foot and keep following it you’ll have a lot of success.

This is a discussion about something that drives me crazy. All the things that people say they “would do” in response or reaction to a choke are very revealing about their level of training or their actual experience with applying or having chokes applied to them.
•
There was a recent “self defense expert” showing a pressure point release to a Guillotine Choke that was in the top 5 most unrealistic responses I’ve ever seen.
•
I’ve had countless comments on videos where I demonstrate and explain front headlocks and guillotines by the “just shoot/stab him” crowd about what they would do, which by the near impossibility of what they describe, reveal that they have never had this choke actually applied to them. But they have a computer and keyboard and an imagination and can lie about their “training experience” so they get a voice in the comment section unfortunately.
•
The breakdown in the conversation comes from lack of training, and people being dishonest with themselves about their abilities. My opinion is this:
Train real things.
Talk online less than you train.
•
Pretty simple. Hope you enjoy the video. Thanks to Ryan for doing this video with me and to Fit to Fight®️ México and the whole FTF Republic family.

I’ve had a few requests for some “Big Guy Jiu-Jitsu” techniques, and this is one of the first that always come to mind. The Sao Paulo pass, popularized by Roberto Tozi, is a powerful pass that is perfect for a smashy BJJ game.
•
Don’t be fooled though, this isn’t just a pass for big, heavy players. I personally like to do this pass to bigger guys (although I am far from a big guy myself), as they tend to not like being folded and smashed the way this pass happens.
•
So, whether you’re a big or small person, I hope you get some usefulness out of this pass. Let me know what you think. Thanks for watching!

Should Police Officers Train in Jiu Jitsu? – 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu Huntsville Police Training
In this video, I want to introduce you to my friend and 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu student Jerry King. Jerry has been with the Huntsville Police Department in Huntsville, Alabama for many, many years and is a Lieutenant on the force there.
There is a ton of controversy surrounding Law Enforcement and Police Officers these days; much of it for good reason. But I thought it would be a great idea to highlight some of the real good guys out there serving the community and actively working to improve themselves and to get better at making sure they go home at the end of the night.
Not only is BJJ proven to be the most effective martial art on the planet, but it’s also perfect for a Police Officer who needs to subdue a person and control a situation without injuring or even striking the person.
With their training at 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu Huntsville, these LEO are setting an example of excellence and commitment to mastery of their craft that all officers would do well to emulate!
Personally, I’m incredibly thankful for these fine men who put themselves on the line every day for me and my family.

When I first started learning the Butterfly Guard, I used to make myself so tired! I was using my legs all wrong and I didn’t understand the idea of off-balancing (Kuzushi) at all. As I gained more experience and began to study the games of BJJ champions such as Marcelo Garcia, Braulio Estima and Jean Jacques Machado, the beauty and efficiency of the position started to come to me.
In this video, I break down a really simple, basic Butterfly Sweep. This technique is fundamental to understanding how the Butterfly Hooks are supposed to be applied in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
In the 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu system, the Butterfly Guard can often look quite different. Besides there being no gi to grab, there’s also the idea of lineage at play. Our Butterfly Guard is generally passed down to Eddie Bravo from Jean Jacques Machado, one of the great Butterfly players in Jiu Jitsu history. As such, there’s a huge emphasis on overhooks and using the body to control the opponent rather than gi grips.
Beyond that, the Butterfly Guard is the perfect launching pad for all of the best submissions from Rubber Guard. My favorites from here include the Flying Kung Fu to Go Go Clinch, and the standard Gogoplata. Triangle Choke is always around the corner, too.
If you’d like to see my entire course on the Butterfly Guard for No Gi, you can grab it here:
