Having short legs and trying to play with Full Guard attacks can be tough. But there are some options that work really well for this body type.
I recently got a question from the Chewjitsu YouTube community page about playing a High Full Guard position with short legs.
The person asking the question is struggling playing off their back in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu because of their short legs.
I can relate! Because while I’m not short. I don’t have long legs. My torso is a bit longer and my legs are a little shorter.
So in this video I share a position I call Diamond Guard with our friend as an option.
This position was super useful in my own Brazilian Jiujitsu training and it’s been helpful to many of my students. Short legs and long legs alike.
It kind of gives you a check point. So that if you don’t have super long legs or quick hips. You can still be offensive and attack with submissions and sweeps from your full guard in bjj.
I hope this video is helpful, thanks for watching!

The x Guard is a great tool to have in your game. As a tall lanky grapple it allows me to stretch my opponents out and gives me a plethora of options. Anything from attacking the legs to the simple sweep we covered today.
The flower sweep or pendulum sweep which ever you’d like to call it is a very powerful sweep from the closed guard but at the high levels grapplers will have amazing balance. Even at a blue belt level grapplers will be more aware and ready to post.
This is when you hit them with the one two combo for you sweep or leg attacks.

I love the flower sweep. Cool thing about this sweep is I learned it the week of that tournament I just showed you. Not only did I hit it once I hit it 4 times that day!
I was thinking wow this thing really does work haha their are different grips you can use for this sweep as you’ll notice in the first part of the video. You can use and over hook grip like I did in the tournament or you can simply control the wrist. You are just trying to stop them from posting out and blocking the sweep.
I use this still anytime I feel someone starting to stand and it will keep them to where they have to pass low and play my game.

This Sweep is very simple and it comes from the seated guard. I really love using this motion to get in on my attacks. I will ether reach out and grab control of the hand/wrist or bait them to grab my hand. Ether one works and it will give me an effective way to get in on the legs and start attacking.
I mix my attacks between going under the legs and going to the de la riva. depending on the positioning of their legs. in my match my opponents legs were spread really far apart which mad it easy for me to get under and attack this sweep. If his legs were closer I may have went to another attack instead.
Thanks to Steven for the viewer video at the end! I showed this wrist lock setup to the takedown a few weeks ago and he hit it in a competition! If you have video of yourself hitting one of the techniques I’ve shown or just have something silly to share and you wanna be on the channel send an email to chad@chadthebeasthardy.com
