Recently I had the opportunity to have a seminar at my former school Derby City MA.
I received my black belt from Nick “CHEWY’ Albin. I wanted to bring him on the channel and give you all some more good technique.
I asked him to show a technique that I see him hitting very often. Enjoy!

A good half guard or knee shield player can be extremely frustrating to go against. Most people get swept or leglocked almost instantly from this position because they just can not pass it.
Here is an option that makes the half guard Just a little bit easier.
It did for me anyways!
Give it a try and let me know what you think!

Most everyone’s favorite guard submission to catch is also most everyone’s least favorite to get caught with. The triangle is a powerful and versatile technique and can be very difficult to defend or even prevent. This video will hopefully help with that.
These are some of the best counters and preventative measures I’ve come across over the years from different teachers and from getting caught in plenty of triangles myself.
Here’s what’s included:
• Early Escape
• Step Through Triangle Counter
• Stack to Posture Triangle Counter
• Bulldog Escape
• Late Escape
The Hail Mary Escape
I hope you like the video, and please remember to like, share and subscribe. Turn on notifications to know as soon as I put up a new video.

This is combining what I taught that day in Missoula before AGF. I put together the Tilt Sweep vs the Over Under Pass and the Arm Drag vs Deep Half Guard. I call it the Sucka’ Drag and learned it from Bill Cooper. It’s all in the timing and position of his head www.BQuickJJ.shop

There are a ton of guard for use in BJJ, some with application in self-defense and fighting and others more purely sport. Spider Guard is an extremely powerful guard that is one of the most popular for use in sport with the gi. It offers a lot of sweep and submission opportunities.
This video will show some fundamental setup concepts and a few of my favorite sweeps.

There is a lot of debate in jiujitsu about what techniques are called and proper terminology. Here is my take.
It doesn’t matter…
As long as you can perform the technique and you know what it is and your students know what it is you can call it as you’d like.
Also some gyms may call something a different name so they can call it out in tournaments.
My new gym say #1 sweep and #2 sweep and so on. This was new to me and helped prove my point. I had no clue what they were talking about haha but everyone in their class did.
Shawn told them to partner up and do the #1 sweep and everyone started doing it without asking.
Some affiliations have made up different technique names for every position/submission so they can all be familiar with it.
Jiu-Jitsu has to many funky positions and submissions to name everything. Some of the Names do not even make sense. You will hear a positions like the inside ashi being called the honey hole.
Now some positions are universal like mount, Guard, side control, and others. But for the most part a lot of techniques have like 3 different names. Key lock, American, paintbrush.
When I teach I will try and let my students know all the different names it may be called after I have told them my naming for it.
If I don’t have a name for it than I will just say Choke, shoulderlock, sweep, position.
End rant…. I could go all day lol
What are your thoughts on this?
