If you get your opponent in headlock control there are a couple of great and effective escapes. One of which we have filmed before and that is grabbing your opponent around the waist, running your hips underneath him and simply (and rather effortlessly) rolling them over. Fantastic. My students have become very savvy at using this technique. The answer is the Kesa Kimura. Oh my how effective this technique is. Give this video a careful viewing guys. The direction of the hips, the locking of the arms and re-positioning. Not hard. But when you do it…you will get an awesome tap. But be careful because it is very powerful and you don’t want to hurt your training partners. Give it a try on the mats guys and let me know how you go…

About Head Instructor Lachlan Giles:

Lachlan earned his BJJ black belt in July 2012 and is the 2014 Australian Jiu-Jitsu Grand Prix Champion, multiple time Pan Pacific and Victorian Jiu Jitsu Champion and has competed at 4 World Championship events.

In 2014 he completed a clean sweep of the black belt division at Australia’s most prestigious competition, the Pan Pacific Championships, winning 4 gold medals. In 2015, he competed in the ADCC Championship and later reached the semi-finals of EBI5.

In 2016 he won the ADCC Asian Trials and earned a spot at the 2017 ADCC Championship which will be held in Helsinki, Finland.

Outside of BJJ, he works as a physiotherapist, and is currently completing his PhD at La Trobe University.
