One of the biggest benefits I have found utilising #gymnastic #strength exercises and how it translates to #BJJ is straight arm work. This is one example on the rings. Forcing the thumbs out and elbows forward, develops strength in the muscles and tissues m that cross the elbow joint. Straight arm strength is something lacking in most strength programs. Yet, for Bjj, our elbow joints take such a beating, so straight arm work should be a must. Not to mention the benefits to the wrist and shoulder joints from holding them in a stable loaded position. Doing this on the rings can be tough, you can start of on a set of dip bars or far more basic variations on the floor in a press-up position

Pain or difficulty with bringing the knee to the chest when performing guard retention or with general movement of the hip? This technique will not only improve motion but will decrease tension in the hip flexors as well as reduce pain.
Use the voodoo band and perform a functional movement and strengthening exercises such as a squat to “trick” the hip into flexion without activating the hip flexor muscles so that way you will not increase your pain. The voodoo band is a great option as it can get into areas such as high into the hip joint more easily. Give it a try!
