Known by many names like the Wilson pass, the Tozi pass, and the Chim pass, the Sao Paolo pass is one that I first tried to add to my arsenal back when I was a blue belt.
I ran into all kinds of difficulties with it, but over the years, I came back to it time and time again with new adjustments, but recently I stumbled on one that may just change everything for the better.
It’s just a small difference in grip placement that I learned from a video that Leo Nogueira did on the topic in a video with Bernardo Faria.
And this video delved is into exactly what that adjustment is and why it matters.

The whole idea of rotational control when it comes to the knee cut pass has been revolutionary for me. And now that I’m also exploring the idea of crowding the space, the technique is going to whole ‘nother level.

Most everyone’s favorite guard submission to catch is also most everyone’s least favorite to get caught with. The triangle is a powerful and versatile technique and can be very difficult to defend or even prevent. This video will hopefully help with that.
These are some of the best counters and preventative measures I’ve come across over the years from different teachers and from getting caught in plenty of triangles myself.
Here’s what’s included:
• Early Escape
• Step Through Triangle Counter
• Stack to Posture Triangle Counter
• Bulldog Escape
• Late Escape
The Hail Mary Escape

Knee, leg or ankle locks can be applied from any position and in this video, we show how to apply a bent knee lock (what we call the “crowbar”) against an opponent who attempts to pass your guard.

This video I demonstrate some concepts for recomposing from side control when you have already connected your elbow and knee as well as recovering when you are in north south with a strong elbow frame in arm pit. These positions are the mid step from full escaping side control and north south, yet I see many people get to these position and not be able to full escape. I like to have students start in this position and work in escaping as it’s easier than escaping full side but also necessary to be able to escape. I focus a lot on using your outside Leg to recenter as well focusing on not allowing your hip to get turned away. Please comment and leave questions for problems you have that come up when you start specific training. I would like to start giving homework to the people watching and give room to comment and ask questions so I can better address the mistakes coming up. I put up a lot of additional content on my Instagram with smaller details please follow there for more content.
