How to do the Stack Pass in BJJ by 4 x BJJ World Champion Fabio Gurgel from https://www.grapplearts.com/pressure
Here are some vintage guard passing highlights. It won’t take you long to realize what my favorite guard pass was – the Knee Cut.
I can’t remember when I learned it, but I know it was my go to pass when I started competing. I have been able to slice through black belt guards for over a decade with it.
The key to being successful with it is having good timing and setups is the key to it’s success. You will see in a lot of the passes it appears effortless – that is what a good setup will do for you.

The sufboard pass is one of my favorite BJJ guard passes. It’s a really simple movement. Almost like a technical standup going forward.
The Surf board pass can be unexpected sometimes and it even looks cool. But again, it’s not a complicated move to use. Just requires some drilling to nail down the timing.
In this video I work with a friend I met down in Costa Rica.
I met him and his brother last year during our Pura Vida Brazilian Jiu-jitsu retreat. And they were able to train with us again this year.
During our roll I hit the surfboard pass on him and he asked to see some of the details.
And in the mood of sharing. I figured I’d share some of the details with you guys.
So if you’d like to work on the surfboard pass in Brazilian Jiujitsu. Then enjoy the video and hopefully, even though it’s short, you’ll get a couple of useful nuggets of information to make it more effective.

The Over Under Pass is one of the most effective ways to enter the guard and initiate a pass without allowing your opponent to establish any form of control on you. Often when passing the guard there are many different variations your opponent can play on you and having a good system for stopping that up front is a powerful tool set for your game. Hope you like the details Andris brings for this pass.

I love muscle cutters and often go to them as a first option when I attack the legs.
For me, fighting for a kneeler is a lot of work since it’s such a powerful limb. But, the nice thing with this attack is that it works off their most common defence. And, if they defend the Calf attack, I can go back to the kneeler.

Nic shares one of his favorite concepts for passing the guard.
The purpose
Of this video is to help people understand the different styles of control that people use with De La Riva Guard. The pass you need to do to get through the position is directly influenced by the style of control your opponent has. A solid conceptual understanding of a position is cortical before you can begin going in depth on passes. Comment and let me know what DLR position you would like to know more about passing. I will have another video coming up soon talking about the underhook dlr with Andy Murasaki rising super star purple belt from Atos.
