Struggling with neck pain from rolling? In this episode, 3rd-degree black belt and UK-registered osteopath Miad Najafi breaks down how the cervical spine works, why grapplers get neck issues (flexion, compression, stacking, guillotines), and a 20-minute routine of safe mobility, stability, and traction-style drills to help you protect and heal your neck so you can train longer.
What you’ll learn:
– Key neck anatomy for grapplers and common injury mechanisms
– Movement essentials: flexion, extension, rotation, side-bending, shear, distraction
– A step-by-step programme you can use between sessions to reduce stiffness and build resilience
– Smart ergonomics and recovery tips to keep rolling consistently

Sam Antonen is a mental performance coach who specialises in Jiu-Jitsu, both at an elite and recreational level. He has worked with many of the biggest names in the sport like Vagner Rocha and Kendall Reusing, helping athletes reach their maximum potential in competition.
Jits Magazine’s Alex Lindsey spoke to Sam about what it means to be a mental performance coach, and how he helps athletes overcome competition anxiety. He also explained how that changes when talking about teenage or child competitors, and how anyone can improve their performance at any level.
