The Butterfly guard can be annoying to try deal with, here’s a way of passing it that works really well & will immediately put you in position to attack arm triangles, punch chokes & more.

So BMAC has talked a lot about his mount game over the last few videos, Punch Choke options, Arm Triangles, etc.
A common reaction to the arm triangle choke is for the opponent to turn away and expose his back. Here’s how we can use the CHAIR SIT to take advantage of this.
This video I was going to show an advanced inside trip, but it turned into my favorite way to get into a front headlock position. Check out the details and you are sure to find something useful! Whenever your opponent pushes your legs down to disengage your hooks or to pin them to the ground you’re in danger of having your guard passed. From https://www.grapplearts.com/armdrag with Rob Biernacki and Stephan Kesting here’s how to stop your opponent from controlling your legs and make him pay for even thinking about passing your guard!
Erkan recently suggested to me that we release a series of videos on Jiu-Jitsu from a more Self-Defense focused viewpoint.
Many people write to us and tell us they wish they could train with us since their Academies don’t ever really cover these topics so we thought we’d put out a series of videos so people could familiarize themselves not only with the techniques of a Self-Defense BJJ but also the mindset and tactics.
These will obviously not be deep dives into this subjects but they should give anyone interested in having a Jiu-Jitsu more focused and knowledgeable about dealing with real-life combative situations a good grounding.

In this third video, we discuss the importance of connection and de-escalation positioning.
