In this video, I discuss a little trick that is more a state of mind an approach rather than a technique. But it’s easily just as effective. And it is often overlooked. Part 5 of 5 – Transition from X Guard INTO a Single LEG X
In the final part of our short series…this is transitioning from an over hook x-guard to a single leg X. Actually, it really is an Ashi Garami – meaning leg entanglement. But as you will see from the video, the transition can be extremely quick. And because of this it opens up many, many options for you. Take a look at the video and give it a try on the mat. Let me know how it goes…
Part 4 of 5 – An AWESOME X Guard SIDE KICK Sweep!
We are now dealing with a savvy opponent. They are aware of the sweeps from x-guard and they know that they need to control the variables. By moving and posting forward. But that just opens up another opportunity with a simple ‘sidekick’ – old school karate style. But used to create distance, not damage. And with that distance, opportunities open up. Watch the video. Give it a try on the mat and let me know how it goes.
Part 3 of 5 – An Alternative X Guard Sweep – Into a Footlock!
It is not uncommon to have completed the sweep discussed in the previous video a couple of times – to suddenly have your rolling partner counter/push against it. No problem. Use that energy to your advantage and sweep the other direction. Straight into a footlock (or alternative a relatively easy pass). It’s not hard, it just takes a little practice. Try it out on the mat and let me know how it goes.

An EASY HACK to Finish CROSS CHOKES Even With CRAP Grips!
We have all done it. We don’t always get the best grips when we go for the cross chokes but we go for them anyway! It’s a common mistake and it is of course very frustrating. But what if there was a way to finish that choke – even when you have crap grips?! Well in this video I discuss how to do just that. And the great part…is that it really works and is super strong. Watch this video. Give it a try on the mat and let me know how it goes.

The AWESOME LEG Lasso LEG BAR Entrance!
The AWESOME LEG LASSO Into LEG BAR Entrance…we looked at something similar recently – the lasso into catapult sweep, which is one of my favorites. If you have the time take a look at that video. This one uses a similar process but moves into a leg bar. Which is a brilliant submission and really hard to stop. It’s actually much easier than it might sound. Take a look at the video. Give it a try on the mat and let me know how you go!
The Hitchhiker ESCAPE From An AMRBAR!
A ‘must have’ in the BJJ arsenal. The hitchhiker escape from the Armbar. This technique can quickly turn a very bad day for you into a very bad day for your opponent. And it really is rather simple and the mechanics when you think about it – rather straight forward. The great thing is that many Jiu Jitsu competitors either forget about the escape (and hence the counter) or just have not seen it at all. Give it a try on the mat. Let me know how you do. I hope you love it.
