In today’s video I have 2 questions that touch on the same topic. 1 comes from an 8 year BJJ Black Belt and the other is from a brand spankin’ new White Belt.
The main question is about how to relax more during rolling in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu training. The Black Belt is asking it more from a coaching perspective and the White Belt is asking from the perspective of a new student.
So in the video I explain about how I used to be a spazzy White Belt, how I deal with them as coaches to help them relax and then my tips for the people asking questions.
If you’re in a similar situation then I hope the video helps you!

A frustrating situation in Brazilian Jiujitsu that everyone has experienced is getting everything setup for an Armbar, sitting back and then having your opponent defend it. Years ago I had a friend I trained with who had excellent Armbar defense and so I had to figure out a way to deal with this kind of situation.
In today’s BJJ technique video I show you a small adjustment I make when I go for an armbar using the figure 4 kimura style lock on the arm. The adjustment is literally a 2-4 inch adjustment. What it does is allow us to weaken the grip the person can use to setup their defense.
Give it a try then next time your going for an armbar from top position in your Brazilian Jiu-jitsu training or rolling.

Today’s video comes from Elijah who wants information about books on mental toughness. He said he knows I’m a reader and wants book recommendations on books to develop mental toughness for BJJ and life.
In this video I share some ideas on how I develop mental toughness for Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and life. I also share why you don’t build mental toughness from reading. Books can be a great tool to get new ideas from. But they’re like techniques. You have to put the ideas into practice. They can’t sit on the shelf. But with that I share 3 books I think are worth reading in relationship to mental toughness.
If mental toughness and being gritty is something you’re trying to do. I hope the video is useful to you.
