for those who watch the channel, know me personally, or see that I am a 6’3 skyscraper know that the triangle is my favorite submission. I have been doing it for 12 years now and have over 100 submission victories with the triangle.
Anyways to stop your legs from gassing you should start to attack multiple submissions at once with the triangle use it to attack the arms and create diversions so you can tighten the triangle up. Sometimes you will land it picture perfect with the arm locked in across sometimes it will require some work to get the finish.
I have more success when I don’t lock it in right away by attacking both arms until I get something (armbar or the triangle)
I also stated that I don’t squeeze at all. What I meant by that is I’m not squeezing to finish the triangle I am just squeezing enough to keep my feet crossed like the guard. Again I’m still squeezing but it doesn’t have to be as tight as possible if I’m attacking the arms and posture.
I also have this Triangle DVD it shows how I set up the triangle and different ways to finish inside of the triangle:

This is my favorite submission from the side control its is super easy to hit and has won me a lot of matches. The key to this technique is learning how to distribute your weight so you do not lose your position.
Another key thing here is switching your grips up on the arm after securing it if you have a scrappy opponent. It will save you a lot of time and frustration! I usually always start off with trying to finish the straight armbar just because it’s the easiest than I will switch it up if it doesn’t work.Try and manipulate the arm so that it will be hyper extended or In simple terms just push the arm the way it’s not supposed to go and you will get the tap haha .
The ending is for fans of the chewjitsu channel that have seen me on their talking about a guy who said
“you are a 140LB piece of trash. I am 6’4 and 340LBs I’ll fight you any day. no liabilities bro!”
So I wanted to poke a little fun at this since a lot of people loved it haha here is the video if you haven’t seen it:

I got this question from a student and he was saying “people on the internet were judging jiujitsu and saying it was not realistic because slams are not allowed what do you think?”
First of jiujitsu is a very realistic martial art and will work in a fight if you don’t believe this go try a class out for yourself. It’s been proven many of times I don’t have to back this up. I love all martial arts I’ve done boxing, kickboxing, capoeira, tkd, weapon defense classes, and more. They all have somthing of value that I could add to my game and someone very skilled at that martial art has the potential to be very dangerous. But I would put a someone who only practices jiujitsu against any other martial art any day of the week.
For someone to say it’s unrealistic just because you can’t slam means that person has no clue what they are talking about and have never went against anyone very good at jiujitsu.
In the gym you can’t slam so you can have training partners and get better. In a lot of tournaments you can slam just not certain ones(Garry tonnen vs palhares). It should be illegal for anyone below a purple belt just for the fact they are not proficient in the martial art just yet and they can forget and be seriously injured. Once you become a purple belt you should know how to defend or to let go of an opponent picking you up.
This is just what I think on the subject. What is your opinion on the slamming rules?
