In this video I use BFR (Blood Flow Restriction) on the legs with BJJ solo drills for an added intensity and difficulty to my workout.
Perform 4 rounds of 5 minutes (1 minute per drill) with 1 minute rest in between rounds.

If you have tight shoulders from BJJ or just from prolonged sitting, then this technique will be very useful. It also can be slightly modified to work on stretching tight hamstrings.

Weakness and lack of mobility is something that most (if not all) of us deal with at some point.
If you are someone that sits a lot for work or practices Jiu-Jitsu, you will have shoulder mobility limitations and strength deficits.
By maintaining mobility and strength you will ensure proper shoulder function and decrease the likelihood of injuries in whatever activity you choose.
In this sequence, we focus on building shoulder health, stability, and mobility through three exercises and then combine these isolated movements into a dynamic movement that yields incredible benefits.
When performing this sequence, work in a comfortable range, avoid any pinching or pain.

This is a quick sequence that I incorporate into my BJJ warm up.
Its a great way to wake up the shoulders and perform a “Jiu-Jitsu-Specific” technique as well.
Basing on the hand will activate the muscles in the shoulder and shoulder blade area while performing the sit-through technique.
Adding a bit of rotation to the body will provide a bit of a pec and chest stretch.

The Wall Angel is a great exercise for general motion and correction of impaired posture/tightness that may come from training Jiu-Jitsu or excessive sitting.
Adding a resistance component is a great way to combine strength, mobility, and postural correction all into one technique.
This video includes three variations with the traditional Wall Angel, Resisted Wall Angel, and the modification to the Floor Angel with Resistance.
These are great to implement as a warm up, rehab, or as a general maintenance exercise. Sets and Reps: 2-3 sets of 10-15 repetitions.
*** Check out my new warm-up series that was created specifically for grapplers!
The warm-up includes dynamic movements, stretches, range of motion exercises, muscle activation exercises, and a bunch more content that I have used myself and with my training partners to allow for an effective and useful warm-up to keep you healthy and training.Β

With training jiu-jitsu, our hips frequently get compressed or we have have been tensing up the hips and hamstring muscles while training which can lead to tightness, stiffness, and even pain.
In this video, I demonstrate a great way to address tight hips and hamstrings.
This technique uses two “Monster Bands” which are thick rubber bands. We start with a hip mobilization to stretch and loosen up the tight hips. This mobilization is great at working out any tightness or pinching at the front of the hips.
Then you will incorporate the second resistance band and bring the leg up to elicit a hamstring stretch. This is a more complete and more effective stretch that not only loosens up the hips but addresses tight hamstrings as well.
You can hold for 10-15 seconds for 3-5 repetitions if you are using this technique as a warm up prior to training or increase the hold times to 30-60 seconds for a cool-down or post-training stretch.
In the video I use a “Rogue Monster Band” but you can find similar items on Amazon.com

In this technique we address the tightened musculature in the hamstrings as well as the hips.
This technique uses a resistance band to provide some activation and assisted stretching to get a more complete stretch to the hamstring and the hip.
We move through multiple planes including forward, outward, and inward to include multiple areas of the hamstring and hip.
1. Leg Forward.
2. Leg Outward
3. Leg Inward
4. Leg Circles
