If you’re a BJJ White Belt, or even a young Wrestler, as you progress, you will run into THIS problem…
Today we’ve got a question from Ben.
He said:
“I’m 46 years old; my son and I are about 6 months into BJJ. My question, at the moment, is that I feel like my Jiu-Jitsu is regressing. I feel like I get compliments about my skill level and progression from upper belts, but there’s not a lot of White Belts in my gym, and lately, in my open rolls, I’ve felt very stagnant… I feel like I’m reacting to all the information… I don’t want this lack of confidence to rear its head in competition. (What do you recommend I do?)”
I’ll dive deep into overcoming stagnation in BJJ and more in this video.
Thanks for watching.

Today we’ve got a question with Michael. He’s 32 years old, has been watching my videos for a while now, and wants to get started in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
But he says that he has one big problem keeping him off the mats…
Social Anxiety!
When it comes to this social anxiety issue, crowded rooms overwhelm him, even in a familiar place. So, he’s wondering if I have any tips to help with the issue or if I’ve ever worked with a BJJ student in a similar situation.
Hopefully, my answer is helpful for Michael or any of you guys suffering from a similar issue.
Thanks for watching.

Ritchie Yip shares his favorite setup and finish for the D’Arce Choke. This technique also counters a popular and powerful side control escape.

Today, we’ve got a question from a brand NEW BJJ White Belt.
He’s 36 years old, 5 feet 11, and 270 lbs. He’s a big fella.
During his first week of rolling, someone put a shin staple on him during one training session. The shin was just cutting into his arm, making it really painful. His training partner was super shocked by this.
He says he realizes he is just being a p***** & wonders how to make it hurt a lot less.
Most people come into Jiu-Jitsu with some level of naivety, and I’ll try to address the reality of it, especially for new people.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu hurts!
I’ll discuss this fact of BJJ life and more in this video.
If you’re having a similar problem as a newer grappler in BJJ then hopefully you found this video helpful. Thanks for watching.

Today, we’ve got a question from Gary, who is questioning the usefulness of traditional Jiu-Jitsu warmups.
He wanted to check out this other gym, which is known for its high-level BJJ competitors. When he went, he was surprised to learn that they do no warm-ups before getting into drilling.
This took him by surprise, especially since there were so many world-class competitors on the mats.
It also gave him some doubts about the 20–30-minute warmups at gyms.
This is a pretty common realization for guys who cross-train. Lots of people have different opinions about the topic, and in this video, I’ll give my perspective.
Thanks for watching.

Today we’ve got a question from Marcos, who sent me a message about a meniscus tear issue that he’s having.
He’s 42 years old, doing BJJ for 15 years, and getting ready to get a meniscectomy.
He is a bit on edge about having the procedure done, and since he knows I’ve had a similar issue from all the wear and tear on my knees from BJJ, he wonders how my knees feel and if I have any recommendations for post-procedure recovery.
Hopefully, you found this video helpful, especially if you’re someone else who finds themselves dealing with tight knees, injuries, or whatever other knee issues occur.
Thanks for watching.
