Learning some great details on saddle entries and more from Alex West while I’m up filming my next instructional with BJJ Fanatics
This back escape seems a little ambitious at first, but if the butterfly hook makes it in by the end of the escape, the ham sandwich is right there. And if the opponent wants to ease the pressure of it by moving away, they have to leave the other leg behind, succeptible to the backside 50/50 heel hook.
Kneebars don’t get as much attention these days as heel hook or other leg locks, but they are still extremely powerful and useful submissions. In this video, my friend Mike “Boom Boom” Cheney and I discuss some of our favorite kneebar entries from standing, ground top and ground bottom. I hope you like these. Make sure to follow Mike on Instagram and YouTube @boomboomcheney9422 and Endeavor Defense & Fitness @EndeavorDCF
Also, big shoutout to Dave Petrone with Blackout Grappling for the influences he obviously had in several instances of these from this video.

Omoplata is a powerful submission in its own right, but it also has a lot of great combinations it can set up for sweeps and submissions. It was one of the first submissions that really made me focus on it as a position as well. This video has some extremely useful entries, back-up plans and extras off of the Omoplata.

The Back Side 50/50 is widely regarded as the ideal position to finish an Inside Heel Hook from the 50/50 guard, primarily because it keeps your opponent facing away, limiting his defenses.
In this video I break down how Fabian Ramirez transitioned from regular 50/50 guard to Back Side 50/50 in order to submit his opponent at the 2021 IBJJF Worlds No Gi with an Inside Heel Hook.

In today’s rolling video you’ll see 3 rounds from a BJJ rolling session.
00:00 Roll with Purple Belt (sweeps & kimura defense)
01:22 Play Leg Lock Round with White Belt
03:54 Roll with Black Belt (back and forth sweeps)
The 1st one is with one of my Purple Belts. When you watch the roll you’ll see a mixture of Butterfly and Half Guard being used. The next round is a playful leg lock round with one of my young White Belts. We had some fun scrambles and eventually I got the submission. The final round was with one of our Black Belts at the gym who has a crazy tough guard to pass. You’ll see him score a nice sweep on me and forced me to work my way back on top.
As always I hope you enjoy the video and get some ideas for your own Brazilian Jiu-jitsu training.

If you have any confusion on where, when and how to transition to various types of open guard, or even what the difference is between various types, this video is a good, quick reference to help. In this video we look at transitioning in a progression between double ankle and tripod sweep systems into de la Riva, single leg X, X-guard & Reverse X. Hope it helps!

The Fireman’s Carry, or kata garuma, is one of the coolest throws found across multiple disciplines and sports. Whether it’s judo, jiu-jitsu, wrestling, Sambo or other grappling styles, this throw is exciting, dynamic and effective. However, traditional versions of it tend to require a good deal of athleticism. This modified version in this video, in my opinion, is a little more accessible. Since learning this one years again, I’ve loved it. So I’m sharing some of the details on it here, modifications, entries and finishes. I hope you like it.

Here’s an example of a Leg Lock Escape done wrong, by Ronaldo Jr. against leg lock specialist Craig Jones.
Running away can be a good strategy to escape leg locks, as long as you clear your opponent’s grips first, otherwise you will just give your opponent the space he needs to entangle his legs and secure a superior position.

Fear no more! I’m revealing EVERY SECRET, detailing how to finish this lock efficiently and easily, giving you a new tool to terrorize your opponents!
What you’ll get:

#3 is MUST HAVE in the modern BJJ game
1. He runs = reap the knee and outside heel hook 💀
2. He pressures forward = Reverse Entry to Honey Hole to Inside Heel Hook (think Oliver Taza) 🍯
3. He back steps = Entry to Backside 50/50 a la Lachlan Giles 🧮
4. He sits back and bases = kick the crap out of him and sweep to top position 🧹
Big shout out to Jonathan Hernandez for being my partner on this one. He runs the 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu academy here in Cancun Mexico 🇲🇽 and he’s a super solid dude with great BJJ. Make sure you look him up to train if you’re ever in the area. We rolled for a long time and I’m very impressed.
