Getting the Omoplata is so much fun. It is such a cool and effective technique. But getting it…is not as easy. It’s even harder the night that it was taught at class. But there, like all things in Jiu-Jitsu, are a few tricks that you can use to make sure you get the Omoplata every time! Watch this video as I take my class over the details of getting the Omoplata from closed guard. Give it a try on the mat and let me know how you go.

Just because you’re going for a submission doesn’t mean that you need to let go of your opponent and potentially give up on a good position if the attack fails. In this video Rob Biernacki and I go over the steps to maintaining total control over your opponent all the way through a position, using the example of an S Mount Armbar from Mount and a Heel Hook Attack from the 411 position to illustrate the principles we’re talking about. I think you’ll like this one!
And if you’re a fan of this style of teaching and would like more then you owe it to yourself to check out my book on BJJ. It’s called ‘The Roadmap for BJJ’ and it’s available for free with zero obligation at http://www.grapplearts.com/book
Good luck with your training!

The s mount might be my favorite mount position – why? because it is a real kill position. There are so many options for you from S-mount and none of them are good for your opponent. Check this video out. Try it on the mat and let me know how you go…
This is another closed guard sequence. The purpose behind sharing it is to demonstrate the difference between branches (different options in a situation) and progressions (additional attacks in response to counter).
The more progressions that exist in a sequence the stronger it will be.
(Also a note, the arm pull back response generally only occurs after the sleeve drag has been initiated not before.)

http://teachmegrappling.com This is the first video of a 3 part series on the arm drag from the closed guard. This is something you can do when your opponent attempts to posture in the guard and you need to break him down and attack. If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, please comment below.
