This series starts from a sweep that seems too simple to be true. However, after being on the giving and receiving side of it, I’ve found it not only to be useful, but a great initiative for submissions and transition opportunities. In this video, I show the fundamentals of this simple scissor sweep variation, as well as transitions from the opponent’s possible reactions and finally a rear naked choke and triangle choke available from it.

Solid escapes from side control are always a good thing. Having sneaky escapes and submissions from bottom side control to compliment your standard options is even better.
•
In this video, Rob Magao from Bushido Jiu-Jitsu in Manchester, Connecticut (Manchester BJJ on YouTube) shows a unique trap and escape and I show a couple of options I have been using since watching my friends Jeremy Pender @ponyboymma on IG and Tyler VanKill @squidviciousbjj on IG. Check all these guys out for some seriously innovative techniques.

When attacking from far side collar sleeve often your opponent will be tight with their elbow or step their hips back making it difficult to get close enough to chase the Omoplata or triangle. This sequence I learned studying and talking with Tommy Langaker has helped my guard tremendously in the last months, I have found it also very useful from cross guard. This is a short explanation, I hope you all get some good use out of it.

Let’s talk about the most important sub in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu: the Triangle Choke. I know it’s fashionable to say strangle now, but call me old-fashioned, I guess.
If you’re a 10th Planet head, then the Triangle is even more important because you are probably gonna be spending a lot of time working on your closed guard and Rubber Guard. The triangle is crucial to both of those games.
This is an idea that I originally took from a Jeff Glover video. These are some of the drills and ideas we worked through in class. Hope ya’ll dig.

Triangle Chokes are one of the most effective submissions from the bottom positions and can be a huge problem for any top player or guard passer. In today’s video we have a question regarding just that situation. Our friend Nick who is a wrestler type who is coming into BJJ is getting caught in triangle chokes left and right and he’s wondering if I have any tips on dealing with the situation.
In this video I share tips on both a triangle choke defense and how to defend it. I used to struggle with the same problem as a wrestler who would get caught in triangle chokes while passing guard. I also show how I corrected the issue.
I also share how I like to look at the triangle as a position which has multiple stages. I consider 3 stages of triangles to be a starting point which I explain in the video.
From there I talk about some tips to escape the triangle in stage 1, or a loosely locked triangle. I’ll work on escapes for the future if in a deeper position.
Hope you enjoy the video and thanks for watching!

This video shows some of my favorite sneaky arm locks that tend to surprise people from time to time. These are either unconventional or difficult to defend even when they see they are being set up. I included several positions, even though nearly every position has multiple ones that would fit this theme.
Included among these are:
– S-Mount Double Attack
– Kesa Double Arm Lock
– Head Hook Arm Lock from Guard
– Dead Orchard from Rubber Guard
– Rolling Arm Lock from Turtle
– Overhook Arm Lock from Back Mount
Let me know some of your favorite sneak attacks in the comments.

Today’s questions is a unique situation where our Blue Belt friend Marc is able to effectively hit the Triangle Choke on most people he rolls with inside his gym. His worry with this is that because he is always using the Triangle Choke submission his BJJ game is going to become 1 dimensional. So in this video I talk about sharpening up is Triangle attack while keeping his Brazilian Jiu-jitsu techniques diverse.
When I was a Purple Belt I went through a specialization phase with my Half Guard. I began learning how to sweep almost anyone I rolled with and it’s still one of my best Guard positions in Brazilian Jiujitsu. What was important about this were the lessons I learned to develop a razor sharp game that I could then take and implement for every other technique and position in my BJJ training.
In this video I talk about how Marc can diversify his attack and create more options that will help him specialize similar to how I did as a Purple Belt.
If you’re in a situation like this or even if you aren’t I believe it’s a sound idea to take into your BJJ training.
Thanks for watching!

This video has had a lot of requests, so I finally broke down and made it. Here I show some Rubber Guard fundamentals, set-ups, common mistakes, control features and submission opportunities from basic to advanced. This is a sampling/overview of Rubber Guard, which is a versatile and robust position with uses ranging from sport to mma to self defense.
There are a ton of great resources out there on this topic, mostly from the 10th Planet System. But this guard system has spread far and wide for decades now, and continually evolves. Hope you like my brief overview here.

On this weeks episode, we meet rising UFC heavyweight “the big ticket” Walt Harris. (@thebigticket205)
Brandon shows a triangle entry which demonstrates the term “‘murder sauce” better then any other technique & we see Brandon’s foxy side on the mats as he demonstrates his twerking skills.

Never be the dog chasing the car…It is valuable advice I try to always remind students. You never want to chase a position or find yourself in one where you don’t know what to do next. This can be especially frustrating when you have worked hard and accomplished a great arm locking position, but you are having trouble finalizing it. That’s where this video comes it.
There are a ton of ways to finish the arm lock, but this video contains a few of my favorites that I find to be helpful, high-percentage and fairly easy to employ. Among the ones included are:
– Wrist Release
– Pull to Unlock
– S-Mount Switch
– Arm Crush Northside
– Pressure Lock Option
– Arm Crush Southside
– Wrist Push Unlock
– Triangle Choke Transition
– Vice Break
– Arm Drag to Back Take
– Reverse Triangle with Kimura

Included in this video:
• Basic DLR Setup
