In today’s video I answer a question from Alex (a young BJJ Blue Belt) who has some Wrestling experience about rolling with new people inside the gym. He says that recently he was rolling with a brand new guy who also had some wrestling experience. During the rolling he was very easy with the new guy because he wanted to welcome him to Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.
Well, after the round was over the new guy seemed to think that Alex couldn’t do anything to him.
So Alex’s question to me is about whether or not he should put it on the new people in the gym or go easy.
In this video I share a couple of stories about times I took it easy on people and they mistakenly thought I couldn’t do anything to them. Then I also go into how I do things now to help people understand the level of skill that exists but also be helpful at the same time.
If you’re in a similar situation as the Blue Belt when you’re rolling with new White Belts then I hope this is helpful.

A viewer asked about how to open the closed guard.
I go over one way to do it and discuss how to approach the idea of opening and passing as well as some fallacies people have about it.
I am working on a Guard Passing Instructional that will go much more into depth on how to open guards (specific angles and pressures) but I think this is a good option to master.
If you like my particular focus and style of teaching, you can get this kind of instruction almost daily for only $10/Month.

In today’s video I teach one of the most basic Butterfly Guard sweeps in BJJ that works in gi or no gi. This is the very 1st sweep I ever learned from Butterfly Guard and is the first sweep in this position that I teach to my Brazilian Jiu-jitsu students.
The Over Under sweep is such a basic technique, but applied correctly with all the details I show in the video, it’s still a great option even at higher belt levels.
Also, if you’d like to get information when the Butterfly Guard course launches just visit the link below.

Hope the video is helpful to you with your Butterfly Guard. Be on the lookout for videos in the future.
