I have not showed a takedown in quite some time.
The drop single is my favorite takedown of them all but! Since hurting my knee I can not shoot in as well. So this takedown has slowly became my favorite.
It is really easy to hit once you get the timing. That is why I recommend doing the Rhythm drill over and over.
Also if you don’t hit this takedown it sets you up for other takedowns. It also makes your opponents start looking for it than you switch it up on them by moving to something else.
Sometimes I will bait it three times or so than go for a drop single to switch it up.

Received a great question about feeling worthy of a belt promotion and the simple answer to the question is, no… I’ve never felt completely worthy and I explain why that doesn’t matter.

I love this sweep because who doesn’t love lifting people in the air am I right? Just me alright cool…
This sweep can be used to lift someone really high in the air if you have longer legs and drop them flat on their back or shoulders depending on how they react.
Now I’m the video I wasn’t lifting rob as high because of my recovering meniscus tear. But it is an option!
You can be safe and do the little lift like I was doing or you can make it extreme and go for the big lift and drop to make everyone go “ohhhhhhhhhhh”
I also plan on doing an add on to this sweep soon when I’m back from Cali. so stay tuned!

The most prominent Judo ground fighting specialist in modern times, Katsuhiko Kashiwazaki won the 1981 World Championships with a variation of side control in the final.
In this video, Kashiwazaki shows transitions from his favourite side control (yoko-shiho-gatame) position, to two other positions:
– north / upper hold (kami-shiho-gatame)
– mount / vertical hold (tate-shiho-gatame).
Notes on the translation:
—————————————
The English subtitles are original. The approach was not to translate every word, only the key messages.
Yoko-shiho-gatame means ‘side direction hold’
Kami-shiho-gatame means ‘upper direction hold’
Tate-shiho-gatame means ‘vertical direction hold’
Instead of the long names, I have used ‘side hold’, ‘side position’, or ‘side control’. I have used ‘north’ instead of ‘upper’, as it will be more familiar to English speakers.
Also, Kashiwazaki’s full instructional is over 2 hours long. I plan to translate other portions of it gradually. If there is a particular technique you’re interested in please comment and I will work on it first.
Subtitling is surprisingly time-consuming, so it may take some time – please subscribe and turn on notifications (little bell icon) so you don’t miss future videos!

This incredible video filmed and edited by Paulo Rubio, featuring me and Chino Ramirez, features narration taken from speeches of Alan Watts on the nature of choice. The words are as appropriate in the application of Jiu-Jitsu as in any aspect of life.
I hope you enjoy this video’s content. Lots more coming from my recent visit to film more with Paulo and train and collaborate with Chino.

In my opinion this is one of the easiest triangle setups to hit live rolling. You just need to make the person post a hand on the mat and you’re set.
This has been one of my most used setups in my jiu-jitsu career I love it. I started doing it as a blue belt and perfected it since then.
You can hit this from guard or knee shield and you can use the concept from almost anywhere.
Most people will say no the push pull triangle is the easiest! I could agree with that as well because it is simple and easy. But once you get the simple movements down on this triangle you will beat everyone with it.
Huge congratulations to rob he has been training 9 Years all together including judo, army combatives, jiujitsu, wrestling.
He is more than deserving of his purple belt. Rob came into our gym about a year ago and we became really good friends. I am happy to promote him to his purple belt!

Highlights of Tony Ferguson’s unique and highly active bottom MMA game – kicks, elbows, punches, palm strikes and submissions all with his back on the mat! Also look out for the innovative sweeps, technical stand-ups, rolls and some crazy guard retention skills.
Anthony Armand “Tony” Ferguson (born 12 February 1984) is an American professional mixed martial artist competing in the lightweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
A professional competitor since 2008, Ferguson was the winner of The Ultimate Fighter 13. In 2017, Ferguson defeated Kevin Lee (from his back) to become the interim UFC Lightweight Champion.
After the win Eddie Bravo awarded Ferguson with a black belt in the 10th planet system of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqqWysEqb_g
Ferguson also set a new record for most consecutive wins in UFC lightweight division history with 10 and became widely regarded by pundits as one of the best lightweights in the history of the UFC.

I love this rolling omopolata it works great for me. Now one thing to keep in mind is you won’t always hit the omopolata so you will wanna be on the look out after the roll to hit your triangle or Armbar.
After you get the initial points of base the submission attempt becomes easier to hit. You want to kick get the leg free and come up to that same knee to make it easier on you to roll.
Another great option you have from here if you can get the space is just push the head away than throw up the omopolata. Ether of these options work I switch between them both depending on the look my opponent is giving.
