One of the most common reactions to being put into the Kimura Trap TV position is to bridge and roll. It is instinct for people to try and recover top position, and we get to use that instinct against them!
By bridging, they have exposed their back. That allows us to attack and take their back while getting a choke set up simultaneously.

Attacking the turtle position can be annoying against a very defensive player. A good way of cracking that shell is to set up a Kimura Trap. It is hard for them to defend this, even if they are shelled up tight, because you are going over the shell, and not reaching inside it. Once you pull them back, their belly is exposed, and all of the submission attacks expose themselves.

If you find yourself on the bottom turtle position, you will be happy to know that you can still hunt for the Kimura from here – with caution. If you are too eager to search for the Kimura without looking for the proper cues, you can end up getting choked fast.
What we want is for our opponent’s arms to be under our arms, and our head over our shoulders and hips. This gives us the option of standing up and of getting a good bite on the Kimura.

In this video I break down B.F.R., also known s blood flow restriction training. I provide an in-depth explanation of what BFR training is, how it works, the benefits backed by research, how and why you would want to implement BFR into your training, and the BFR cuffs that I have been using and recommend.
The BFR cuffs made by https://saga.fitness/ are the ones that I recommend. You can use the code BJJ15 to get 15% off of your total purchase or follow this link https://saga.fitness/?ref=iB9xhugEifpJwc

In BJJ everyone wants to be more offensive and hit more submissions. It’s fun! In Brazilian Jiu-jitsu nothing feels quite as good as a well-timed submission. And so today’s question comes from a White Belt who said he’s defense is good but wants to turn up the offense now.
So in this video I’ll share 2 things. #1 I’ll share something that will destroy your ability to be offensive on the mats against similarly skilled opponents. #2 is a simple idea to eliminate this problem and how to become laser focused on your offensive techniques and submissions.
Now, I won’t lie to you. The idea is super simple. But it’s effective. It’s something I still do to this day. And when I think of all my best students and friends in grappling, they do the same thing.
So anyways. . . Hope the video gives you some useful ideas to assist you with your training.

Sometimes when you are throwing people around with the Kimura, you can goof up and give your back to them.
No worries! It isn’t game over – far from it. We can still use our Kimura to submit them or escape the back mount to a dominant finishing position – all while never letting go of the Kimura.

These are two of my favorite submissions from kesa gatame – the step over straight arm lock and the far side arm crush. Longer videos on my channel on more subs from this position.

When you face someone who knows the Sumi Gaeshi is coming, they will tend to posture their weight back. This will prevent you from hitting the Sumi Gaeshi, and you will be stuck.
Unless you know about the Osoto Gari, which will be perfectly set up to counter this defense and send your opponent falling hard.

Today’s question from a Blue Belt who’s competed, and done well, in several tournaments and is now gearing up to do his very first IBJJF competition. His question is whether or not the IBJJF competition is tougher than other Brazilian Jiu-jitsu competitions.
In the video I’ll share some ideas on the IBJJF, why you shouldn’t get spooked about any competition and also how 1 of my BJJ students struggled in a local tournament and later on went and won the Pan Ams in his weight class and age division.
So, if you’re getting ready for your 1st IBJJF competition then I hope the video is useful!
