Playing the guard in Jiu Jitsu is one of the hardest skills to learn as a beginner.

We all want to hit the cool sweeps and submissions, but the truth is NOTHING works until you can learn to shut down the guard passing.

The biggest mistake people make when getting started is that they open the knee/elbow connection while they reach, push and struggle to pull off their moves in BJJ.

Learning to keep this space closed and move around your opponent’s attempts as you keep it closed will help you develop great off balancing skill; and soon you’ll have that guard that everyone in the gym dreads trying to pass.

This is one of the easiest ways to tape an injured finger for BJJ.

This style of taping is used to support, stabilize, and help protect the finger while allowing for good range of motion which has allowed me to train both Gi and No-Gi without worry and with the ability to grip.

One of my guilty pleasures is listening to game designers talk about how they create video games. As a kid I was a big gamer, building computers and all that stuff. “Chewy, what is your favorite book?” I get this question regularly. Many of oyu watching the videos know I love to read and so you’re looking for recommendations. And I give some from time to time on the channel.

But whenever I’m asked what my favorite book is, it’s hard to say. I read for lots of different reasons. Enjoyment, improving my business and my own self-development.

That said, I probably have a favorite type of book, which I talk about in the video. I usually have 2-3 books going at any given time. Just like you might have 2-3 shows going on netflix. I’ve got that with books. Each one giving me something different. And the type of book I talk about in the video always has a place in my daily reading queue.

In today’s video I share an idea on a simple tip to hold mount in BJJ. The idea is that holding mount too tight can get you in trouble. So, at certain times you’ll need to loosen up at just the right time to allow the person underneath of you to expose themselves.

So in the video I’ll give you some ideas of when you should be tight in mount and when you should loosen up.

ADULT / BLACK-BELT / MALE / OPEN-CLASS – FINAL

In this video, I demonstrate using the SAGA BFR Cuffs with minimal equipment…in this case just one resistance band. The BFR cuffs fatigue the muscles at a much faster rate and have been shown help increase muscle size and strength.

The reps and sets for each exercise are as follows:

Set 1: 30 reps, Sets 2-4: 15 reps each, 30 second to 1 minute break between sets.
