ADULT / BROWN-BELT / MALE / OPEN-CLASS – FINAL
In today’s BJJ Q&A video I answer a question from Matt who says he fails to turn up the intensity in BJJ training and gets beat by people who aren’t as large, athletic or technical experienced as him.
He wants to be nice to his training partners in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and has trouble tapping into the tougher side of himself. He also feels bad applying knee on belly or heavy pressure to people.
He’s a BJJ Blue Belt now and becoming more aggressive has been one of his main focuses since White Belt.
So I share some ideas to hopefully help him with his aggression dilemma. If you’re in a similar situation then I hope it helps you too.

This is a finish that I came up with on my own, as I tend to use the single leg often. This is a simple finish, with the goal being to get your opponent to hop into you and bring his legs close together. The moment he does, that is when we tackle him by slamming or shoulder into his body as we wrap around his knees.

Bmac has a VERY unorthodox choke you can set up from a variety of positions. It looks like it would never work but you’d be surprised how much control you have from this position. Check it out and find MORE details on this & other attacks from mount at the link below!

Peruvian necktie, Peruvian sweep to mounted guillotine or back triangle transition. This and much more will be broken down in my next instructional that I’ll be filming this weekend out in San Diego with Jiu-Jitsu X. Really excited about this one.
The go to finish of the head inside single leg is to run the pipe. It’s simple, but people still get it wrong because of the small details.
The main trick here to avoid spinning around in circles is to focus on digging your shoulder over the top of their thigh. Our goal is to drive their hip down, not spin them in circles. Securing the ankle helps to ensure the take down finishes, and it adds a bit of a knee bar pressure as well.

In today’s video I’m going to show you a nasty adjustment on the bread cutter / paper cutter choke. If you watched me Shotgun Armbar series located here: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL5awtUfQsILoIWUyDQzJd_xhDyTJ6vKDv
In that playlist I show a great sequence of armlocks and use the bread cutter / paper cutter choke to add a choking submission threat to the mix of armbar and armlock submissions.
In today’s video I’ll give you 1 finishing detail that makes the paper cutter even nastier.
Hope the detail helps!

ADULT / BLACK-BELT / MALE / ULTRA-HEAVY – FINAL
The Head Inside Single Leg is one of my favorite take downs. It is very versatile, can be used against both bigger and smaller opponents, and can even be used to attack leg locks. To start this series, I’m working with the basic entry from the double bicep tie.
One thing a lot of people struggle with is driving from a head inside single leg. They keep the drive leg to perpendicular to the ground, which results in standing straight up.
Instead, you want your drive leg at a 45 degree angle, so that when you drive, your are pushing your head into your opponent and causing them to step back. This takes the weight off you when standing up and forces the opponent to balance, which is why it can work well with heavyweights.

This video I overview the Leg Drag control, often people think of the leg drag as just a guard pass, but its actually an extremely powerful control that can branch into so many other positions ( Back Takes, Crab Rides, Passes, Berimbolo ) Once you master this system its so easy to find it from everywhere and makes finishing the match super easy.

Guillotines are usually attacked after giving up top position or allowing yourself to go back to get the finish. However, attacking guillotines from top gives you much more control, and let’s you trap them. We go over a few ways of using the guillotine trap from side control and top half guard.
