The Arm Triangle is another move the flows from the Kimura Mouse Trap that most people aren’t aware of. Especially when people defend the Americana, they end up putting themselves in position for a nice and tight arm triangle.
My bonus tip to this classic technique is what I call the cross stack. This is when your stack your wrists on top of each other, thumbs pointing up, with the choking arm on top. This digs the blade of the wrist into the neck, increasing the pressure by double.

Besides the Kimura, my most common finish is the Figure Four Arm Lock. It is simple yet devastating, and I find that the elbow locks out much easier than a regular arm bar, due to the fact that you have much a better brace of the elbow than you do with the classic arm bar.
It also flows naturally from either the Americana or Kimura when people try to escape. Sometimes I just force the position if I’m having a hard time with a Kimura. Once you have it locked out, there isn’t anything the person on bottom can really do except tap.

The Kimura from side mount is just one attack out of a series that go well together. Whenever we isolate the opponent’s arm from side mount, we have a Kimura, an Americana or paint brush, a Straight Arm Lock, and an Arm Triangle choke in a series called the Kimura Mouse Trap.
The Americana is like a Kimura in reverse, literally. We are rotating the shoulder in the opposite direction. So there are a few details that naturally get reversed as well. One of the key ones that most people miss is that instead of bringing their elbow to their ear as we do with the Kimura, we bring their elbow to their ribs. This small detail makes a huge difference. In fact, if you don’t do this, you won’t finish an Americana on anyone, and it’s the detail most responsible for people escaping.

My wife and I are getting ready to embark on our honeymoon to the Maldives within the next few days. Of course, I’m excited to get to do more scuba diving and enjoying the beautiful views.
But, a part of me is not looking forward to breaking my routine. Not so much the fitness routine, as I can maintain that over there well enough. I’m talking about my daily posts. It took a year and change for me to get my act back together, and after a few good weeks of building my content up, I’m going to have to cut and run. I won’t have internet access for the first half of the trip, which definitely makes it tricky.
Fortunately, I have a plan. I have a treasure trove of seminar and camp footage that I have not released publicly before that I’m going to share while I’m away. Looking through my content, I’m going to share my last camp in Costa Rica, back from April 2021. This was an encore Kimura Trap System camp, where we focused on everything Kimura.
I start camps with a bang, focusing on the most important aspect of the system – the Kimura from side control. When this technique is fully understood and mastered, you will be a menace to everyone that shares the mats with you.
There are 8 key points to this technique, which most beginners only know 3-4, with experts knowing maybe 5-6. I have yet to encounter someone that knew all 8 points before I met them, so before you dismiss the Kimura from side mount as being “basic,” I urge you to take a close look. The 1 or 2 points you might not know can result in huge gains of efficiency.
P.S.: If you enjoyed this video, you could be featured in my next video by joining my next camp. I’m going to be heading back to Costa Rica from June 6-12 with Hero Academy. Hero Academy is a 501c3 charity that helps the local community of Tamarindo, in part by giving all kids free instruction in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. So by registering, not only are you rewarding yourself with a training vacation, but the proceeds are going to support the charity and local community. A true win/win situation.
