So I posted one of my matches on Instagram and I had a few people write me and ask to do a video on the sweep I hit.

You ask I deliver! This sweep is actually very easy to hit if you set it up right. And it looks so smooth. Basically you want to set the person up. After they pick you up in guard drop and try to catch their legs. If you catch them great you get the first sweep.

But most of the time the base will widen and if you have them leaning even a little bit you can launch them in the air. I hit this move on a heavyweight In the open. So it works on bigger guys as well.

In today’s video we look at a basic way to off balance the Guard Passer when they start to smash our De La Rive Guard.

We are using the off balancing technique as a response to a person smashing into our De La Riva Guard and passing our guard.

In the video I show the situation that was explained in the question from one of the viewers and then demonstrate an easy way to counter it.

Even if you do Brazilian Jiujitsu and play DLR and have not run into this issue yet, you probably will at some point. So the technique could still find it’s way into your BJJ training or competitions.

Have you ever had a White Belt teacher in your BJJ gym? Someone who was fairly new and insisted on showing you how to do a technique even if it was wrong?

This is the situation our buddy Rich is in currently where he says he says he’s teaching classes but some of the White Belts go off on their own to do things differently.

As a newer Purple Belt coach he was curious what I would recommend for this situation in his Brazilian Jiu-jitsu gym.

In this video I sort of lay out my policy regarding coaching and I also discuss a situation that happened last year where one of the newer White Belts in our BJJ fundamentals class was trying to coach other White Belts.

I also explain why it is so important to learn good Brazilian Jiujitsu technique and why as a BJJ coach you must maintain the culture of your gym.

If you’re someone dealing with a similar situation in your gym then I hope this video is useful to you with your Brazilian Jiujitsu training or coaching.
