Bellevue Police Officers (Washington) were investigating a DUI. When they attempted to extract the suspect from the vehicle (with a completely blown out front tire), he became combative so they decided to take him to the ground. He continued fighting, so the officers transitioned into SafeWrap and immediately gained full control of the suspect until help arrived and he was taken into custody.
Critical Observations:
-Compliance Through Control: Hope is a function of progress. The suspect fought aggressively as long as he believed escape was possible. Once SafeWrap was applied and he could no longer generate movement, he quickly stopped resisting.
-Critical Communication: When officers panic, communication suffers. SafeWrap provides unmatched physical control, which reduces panic and allows for clear, calm coordination. In this case, officers were able to check on one another, maintain situational awareness, and strategize effectively while waiting for support.
-Safety For All: Once restrained, the suspect could no longer strike officers or access weapons. Because SafeWrap immobilizes the limbs while positioning the suspect on their side, it helps preserve the airway, ensures continuous visibility of the face, and allows for uninterrupted medical monitoring throughout the encounter.
Remarkably, this was Officer Silva’s first-ever use of force. He remained calm and composed throughout the incident—despite having no prior martial arts or fighting experience and only one exposure to SafeWrap during training.
SafeWrap was designed to give restrainers maximum control in the least amount of time, with minimal risk of injury to everyone involved. From law enforcement to healthcare and EMS, SafeWrap is transforming organizations that adopt it.
SafeWrap is patent pending worldwide and requires a license for use. The license is currently available at no cost for law enforcement and first responder agencies—once one or more team members complete the Instructor Certification Program.

Today we’ve got a question from a fellow Black Belt and Gym Owner and it’s about Burnout.
We’ll call him Coach Bob.
Coach Bob has been doing BJJ for 20 years and is starting to feel pretty burnt out.
He is running a good business, but the training, the rolling, the physical side of it, is burning him out. He feels like he just doesn’t have the passion for it.
He says I look like I’m still passionate about it, even after 20 years of training and teaching, and wonders how I do it.
Hopefully, this video will help Coach Bob and anyone else who is running into a similar problem.
Thanks for watching.

A lot of people struggle with aggression on the Jiu-Jitsu mats.
I’m not talking about wild, uncontrolled aggression, but rather technical, efficient, BJJ-specific aggressiveness.
Recently, I had a student dealing with this exact issue. She’s a recreational competitor who was frustrated because she didn’t want to come across as a jerk to her training partners — but she also didn’t want to be too passive.
In this video, I’ll share what I told her to help develop healthy, controlled aggression in a safe and technical way, and how you can apply the same ideas to your own training or competition.
Hope you enjoy the video.
Thanks for watching!

Sometimes it’s not the whole technique — it’s just one overlooked detail. Fix your grip and feel the lapel choke tighten up instantly. Clean, technical, and hard to escape.

Actual footage of a serial carjacker in Los Angeles who was preying on women at gas stations ‼️
🗣️ The most important self-defense tool any woman has is her VOICE. When you set clear, concise, and confident verbal boundaries, it provides three life-saving benefits:
1) It can reveal a perpetrators intentions
2) It shows him that you are NOT the easy target he hoped for, and
3) It draws attention from bystanders who may provide assistance.
Many women hesitate to set verbal boundaries because they are afraid to hurt someone’s feelings. Unfortunately, many have been taught (as children) to prioritize other people’s feelings over our own sense of comfort/safety. But when it comes to personal safety, politeness MUST take a back seat.
The more you invested in physical safety skills, the more comfortable you became setting boundaries with others (because you know you can back them up).
Ladies, kickoff the new year with us at our free 2.5-hour women’s self-defense seminar at 3pm on Sunday, July 13th, 2025, in Torrance, CA, and at select Certified Training Centers around the world.
No experience necessary and participation is free, but you MUST pre register at https://www.GracieGirls.com.
