Leigh’s throwing system for Jiu Jitsu is based on a simple gripping strategy and rolling takedowns that resemble guard sweeps. The intention is that Jiu Jitsu players will be able to utilise familiar skills to get a collar grip and turn someone over from underneath.
This throw is an aggressive variation of Yoko Wakare (Side Separation) and is also informally known as the Tornado Throw. The application within the throwing system is that Tori had the collar grip, and Uke has reached over the arm. Note that reaching over the arm is generally considered a mistake, but it is still somewhat common and provides the opportunity for a high-percentage, low-risk throw. Leigh has used this effectively at the black belt level in Judo competitions.
Leigh is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Judo, Traditional Ju Jitsu and Tae Kwon Do. He is a prolific competitor and has competed internationally in martial arts, including the UFC and Polaris. He has won several prestigious competitions, including the NAGA United Kingdom Grappling Championship belt and European IBJJF no-gi gold medals. ♦️5 Easy Recovery Exercises After BJJ Training♦️
♦️ Hamstring Stretch (if you don’t feel a stretch, move closer to wall or use a belt around foot to lift leg) x 2 minutes total
♦️ Butterfly Stretch x 2 minutes total
♦️Figure-4 Stretch x 2 minutes per side
♦️Hip Internal Rotation Stretch x 2 minutes per side
♦️ Diaphragmatic Breathing – make exhale longer than inhale x 3-5 minutes
These are some of the exercises I like to do after training. Longer hold times after training is helpful to relax the muscles and good for recovery. Focus on breathing throughout the exercises to get into a comfortable stretch and make sure not to go into pain.
