Today’s video is for those of you in your first couple of years of training, who struggles with defense, escaping side control, bottom of mount, anything like that.
It’s a White Belt lesson that we all get, that I didn’t grasp until I was a Brown Belt in BJJ.
Hopefully, if you’re new to training in jiu-jitsu, you will find this video helpful.
Thanks for watching.

The Over-Under pass is one of my favorite guard passes gi and no gi. It offers a great deal of control of the hips. you can take your time and wear your opponent out. It also is a great compliment to other guard passes like the stack pass.

Bellevue Police Officers (Washington) were investigating a DUI. When they attempted to extract the suspect from the vehicle (with a completely blown out front tire), he became combative so they decided to take him to the ground. He continued fighting, so the officers transitioned into SafeWrap and immediately gained full control of the suspect until help arrived and he was taken into custody.
Critical Observations:
-Compliance Through Control: Hope is a function of progress. The suspect fought aggressively as long as he believed escape was possible. Once SafeWrap was applied and he could no longer generate movement, he quickly stopped resisting.
-Critical Communication: When officers panic, communication suffers. SafeWrap provides unmatched physical control, which reduces panic and allows for clear, calm coordination. In this case, officers were able to check on one another, maintain situational awareness, and strategize effectively while waiting for support.
-Safety For All: Once restrained, the suspect could no longer strike officers or access weapons. Because SafeWrap immobilizes the limbs while positioning the suspect on their side, it helps preserve the airway, ensures continuous visibility of the face, and allows for uninterrupted medical monitoring throughout the encounter.
Remarkably, this was Officer Silva’s first-ever use of force. He remained calm and composed throughout the incident—despite having no prior martial arts or fighting experience and only one exposure to SafeWrap during training.
SafeWrap was designed to give restrainers maximum control in the least amount of time, with minimal risk of injury to everyone involved. From law enforcement to healthcare and EMS, SafeWrap is transforming organizations that adopt it.
SafeWrap is patent pending worldwide and requires a license for use. The license is currently available at no cost for law enforcement and first responder agencies—once one or more team members complete the Instructor Certification Program.
