Fighting bigger opponents is always challenging, but if you control the grips and distance then you can avoid them crushing you and come out on top. The tips in this video apply to gi and no gi. Also, here here are some additional resources to check out if you’re always getting crushed on the bottom by bigger, stronger, younger punks…

Police Officers in the UK struggled to take down a subject so they started beating him with their collapsable steel batons, but he hardly flinched.
If anyone has a relationship with the command staff at the Metropolitan Police Service (or any other agencies in the UK), please contact Gracie University so that we can certify their instructors in the SafeWrap system.

Cop wants the subject’s hands behind his back, so he punches him in the head. Subject is blocking the punches, so he can’t put his hands behind his back. Cop is frustrated so he punches harder…and the cycle continues.
Eventually the person recording says the most logical thing of all time: “You gotta stop punching him first!”
It’s sad that the civilian bystander had to be the voice of reason in this case, but it doesn’t have to be this way.

SafeWrap is a proprietary system of lateral restraint by which two people can effectively and safely subdue an aggressive, suicidal, or emotionally disturbed person for an extended period of time while greatly reducing the risks of injury to all parties involved.
The system is effective enough for law enforcement use and safe enough for healthcare applications, as it utilizes zero joint locks or choke holds; the system is designed to avoid compression on the diaphragm, facilitating breathing and greatly reducing the potential of a panicked response by the person being restrained.
The SafeWrap system was originally designed for healthcare and law enforcement professionals, but it was so effective that it quickly became clear that it had the potential to save lives in every sector. From first responders to security guards to educators to retail workers, any organization that requires its employees to interact with civilians would benefit from having its staff members certified in the SafeWrap System.
SafeWrap is patent pending worldwide, and in order to ensure that the life-saving characteristics of the system are effectively upheld by all certified instructors, the system requires a license for institutional use.

I recently listened to the Lex Fridman podcast with Craig Jones, and they brought up the idea of “Seminar Snipers” at BJJ seminars.
The clip is included in the video.
Craig talks about confronting injury threats on your own as an instructor in different Brazilian Jiu-jitsu gyms. The idea is not to injure someone for no reason, but just in self-defense.
You can listen to the full podcast episode here:
Anyways, often when it comes time for the class & visiting BJJ instructor to roll, there’s sometimes people who feel like they have something to prove.
This person usually tends to be very spazzy & dangerous with the instructor.
I wanted to dive into this unfortunate situation and talk about some unwritten rules, and how I deal with and approach rolling at seminars, especially as a 39-year-old BJJ coach who does NOT want to go to war every day.
Hopefully, you found this video helpful. Thanks for watching.
