There are many ways to grab your opponent in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo or Sambo. One of the most effective grips is the Georgian Grip. This belt grip, popularized by Judo athletes from the former Soviet state of Georgia, is demonstrated here by Sambo master of sport and BJJ & Judo black belt Vladislav Koulikov.

The darce has always been one of my favorite submissions. There was a point in time where I was hitting the darce more than any other submission.

I learned how to do the butcher when I went to Indiana wrestling camps. You can ether do the way I showed it or even walk around to the opposite side to finish. In wrestling you would get a pin for this technique but I wanted to tie my wrestling with my jiujitsu so I started noticing how easy the darce was off of the butcher and other variation shown.

Now this is very important. Just like any other submission or Sweep if you fail to knock them over you may want to back out and move right to the next attack. Trying to force something to work will only put you in trouble.

This might be new for some of you guys. It’s not overly advanced. In fact it is probably the first guard that you should think about studying and employing outside of closed guard. It is very powerful, opens up lots of submission avenues and in general. Worst case scenario, you end back in baby spider. Love this technique. Love this position. I know you will too. If you haven’t tried it on the mat. Then definately give it a go first time you are back. And let me know how you go…
