What a pick-up technique by Eteri Liparteliani of Georgia. At first glance, it looks like a Khabarelli technique, something the Georgians are known for, but look carefully at her grip and the direction of her throw. She grips the belt with her left hand, which normally means she would throw to her left but Liparteliani consistently throws to her right off a left-handed grip. This is highly unusual. But hey, it works!
Then I realized, if I didn’t post it I would be doing you a disservice. I am human, I shed tears, and that’s ok. Often times people think those that they look up too are super human, we are all human. I have received thousands of messages regarding my father, and while I cannot respond to them all, you’re so appreciated. Everything is always ok, just like I always say. I filmed this last night and today I feel much better. Truly, thank you, from the bottom of my heart.
One of the greatest arguments against Jiu-Jitsu is that it is useless for defending yourself against multiple attackers.
This shows a lack of knowledge about realistic self-defense, martial arts in general, and about Jiu-Jitsu specifically.
Here, Erkan and I explain why despite this fallacy, Jiu-Jitsu is actually the BEST martial art to know if you have to defend yourself against multiple opponents.

We continue here with how to deal with our opponent’s defenses to the Arm Drag.
In this case, he stops us with a frame. From here, I use that frame to set up a Kata Guruma variation.

In honor of the @bjj.fanatics sale happening, let’s take a look into a move that will be shown in one of my upcoming instructionals- the mounted juji (arm bar). One of the big problems associated with trying to hit a mounted arm bar is the intermediary step between mount and S mount. You are stable in mount, you are stable in S mount, but you are NOT stable in the phase between the 2. So our 1st problem is “how can we move from a mount to an S mount without my opponent simply bridging/ shoulder walking and bringing the elbows down?” The solution to this is simple- use extra wedging. Don’t just jump from 1 to the other. Notice how I take my left knee and wedge it under robertos head, effectively taking away his ability to bridge and walk backwards to lower the elbow. This make the transition from mount to S mount seemless. Out next question is “how do I address the lock of the hands?” Every opponent, even a white belt will lock their hands to avoid limb extension. Notice how I pass his support arm (left hand) across my right hip. This effectively takes away his ability to lock his hands in any configuration, making an extension easy, leading to a finish from shoulder sankaku juji gatame, specifically. We will spend a lot of time in this area when I film “systematically attacking from top pins”. Hope you all enjoyed this little breakdown😊

Today’s video is about a young guy who is getting ready for a competition and has recently been promoted. Like most people at a new belt he doesn’t feel ready at this new level of his BJJ and is worried about letting his Jiu-jitsu coach down.
He says his Brazilian Jiu-jitsu coach is not just a coach. He’s a friend, a mentor and someone he looks up to. This young guy has also become one of the better competitors inside the gym.
And with that, he’s worried that if he competes and loses that he’ll let his coach down or possibly change the dynamic between their relationship.
In this video I share some ideas on how most of the coaches I know judge people. I’ll also share some ideas on how to accept losing in grappling competitions (or anything really).
Hope the video is useful to you.
