This reversal from bottom side control is great vs a larger opponent. Catching the arm just shallow of a deep cross face, you can torque the position with this technique at an angle the top player has to comply with. Try it out.

I’m getting ready for 2024 No-Gi Worlds in a few weeks, bulking up for a run at Super Heavyweight.

But anyway, I was thinking about the fact that I’ve been competing since the year 2000 in Wrestling/BJJ.

It’s been a wild 24 years. I’m getting old!

On top of that, I’ve had a lot of time to make mistakes, and adjustments, and develop some wisdom in the long years I’ve been competing in Jiu-Jitsu.

In this video, I’ll share a philosophy that changed my life in and outside of BJJ competitions. It’s an idea of high standards but low expectations. Meaning high standards for yourself but low or no expectations for how the outcome should go. I’ll explain more in the video.

Counter your opponent standing stance from closed with the Lumberjack Sweep and two different variations.

Escape the Mount to Deep Half, connecting to two different sweeps

Set Up the Monoplata using the Omoplata Sweep from Closed Guard

This is probably the simplest pass you can execute from a standing position. You grab both the ankles and throw them to the side. But there is more to it than just that.

I start with the throw by pass, using a bit of a juking motion to disorient and fake them out a bit, followed quickly by a knee on belly. We can then double throw by, anticipating our opponent quickly turning back into us and throwing the legs by a second time. This is more effective as you use their momentum against them.

In MMA, we can also add on overhand right which can be devastating from this position, making the pass even easier.
