I have fell in love with the Switch from the Guards the last few years and teach it often. I was at an open mat with 7 black belts and a bunch of savage purples that work AGF. We were in Jackson, Mississippi at my buddy Anthony Mitchell’s gym, Precision Martial Arts.

In today’s Q&A BJJ video I answer the question as to whether or not you can take Brazilian Jiu-jitsu too seriously. I think this question comes up because people take a lot of things too seriously in our society at times. We’re all guilty of it. Plus, people experience burn out in a ton of things as well.
So it’s a good question I could chat about for hours. But in the video, I focus on 1 specific idea I think sums up when your training in BJJ crosses the line of “too serious.”
If you keep this element of play mixed into your BJJ I think it will help keep your growth going and also help you avoid burn out. I know it’s been this way for me over the last 20+ years in grappling.
Thanks for watching, hope it gives you a useful idea to chew on.

Sometimes when your opponent posts to defend the rolling sweep, they float their hips a bit further over your body. This makes it trickier to go for the back, as you will have to cover a lot more ground. Instead of going around their back, we will go into a leg lock by coming underneath them.
This leg lock entry is another classic, and can land you in all sorts of leg locks. It all depends on how your opponent reacts, as some people sit, others roll, and some stand up. The most likely scenarios are scoring a heel hook or a knee bar.
